I just recently got back from an annual country music festival in Mirande, France with Ruby Dee and 17 of the greatest people you would ever meet. The tour is essentially set up like a showcase tour from the 50's: 10 headliners, 2 house bands. I happpened to be fortunate enough to play electric guitar in one of the house bands backing up Austinites Teri Joyce, Paul Minor, and Robert J. Banta, in addition to slingin' electric guitar with Ruby Dee doin' our Snakehandlers set.
At one of the meals we had in France, we were served sauteed duck hearts, which happens to be a local delicacy of the region - of course, being the typical americans, we kind of ran with the whole concept and nicknamed the group the "Mirande Duckheartless Bastards". One afternoon, thinking about the whole thing, I whipped up a pencil sketch for fun and finished it up digitally. I placed the scanned TIFF into Adobe Illustrator, and using a Wacom Graphire tablet and the brush tool, I created this illustration. Hope you like it!
